Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo: Tibetan New Year Greetings

Dear Friends,February 9 is Losar, the Tibetan New Year. We welcome the Year of the Fire Monkey with a message from Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo.

Jetsunma with 2016 New Year Monkey gift.

In India we have the dubious opportunity to observe monkeys who are living free, not caged in zoos. They are usually on the move, constantly searching for food; either grooming or quarrelling with each other and always on the alert for threats. Always restless and unsettled.

So in this Year of the Monkey it is perhaps appropriate to deal with our own monkey minds – always jumping from distraction to distraction, grasping at sense objects and often at odds with those around us. Let us instead aim to cultivate a mind of quiet contentment and inner awareness.

May this Year of the Monkey bring basic sanity into our lives and into this world! May all the beings sharing this extraordinary planet be well and happy, fulfilling their role in the ecology of interdependence and may human beings become more conscious and more caring towards each other and towards the world!
